Room designer software?

We have just bought a new house but not yet moved in. I'm trying to find somewhere or something that I can build a plan of the kitchen/ lounge etc and plan what furniture I can put in and what looks good etc. I would like a 3D view as it's better to get an impression of space around the furniture etc.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm not especially looking for a free program. I don't mind paying as long as it's a good program.
Thanks.

You want Floorplan 3D Design Suite 9.
You can download a trial version from here : http://www.imsisoft.com/prodinfo.asp?t=1&mcid=244&cid=1645040 -
Hi Mecoconuts
Have you actually used this produce on a project you had ? I would be interested to get a good package but can't afford to pay alot. I have never used one before so it would have to be easy to use."The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
The best room designer I've tried was a freebie on a pc mag, It was by Broderbund.
GSP 3d home designer's ok too but not as easy to use.0 -

I have used GSP 3D Home Designer to visualise our planned extension; it is not the simplest package to use but it is cheap - I think it was about £5 from PC World. Once mastered it produced a good result which you can walk through or print off, in 2D, for reference.
If you only need to work in 2D, then draw a scale plan of each floor on grid paper and cut out scaled pieces of paper for each proposed piece of furniture. It will give you a "feel" of the layout and ensure that it will all fit in.I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0 -
quick point - a lot of this soft ware is designed/ produced in america so it is useful to look for one suitable for UK houses as there houses tend to be very different desig in terms of sizing/dimensions of room and it can make them hard to use especially if you have an old house with odd shaped rooms.
I have found amazon have good customer reviews of products if you wanted to check it out although some of the ones mentioned above look like great value for money - think I might give them a try - thanks guys.
Also MFI have a kitchen planner on their website which makes pretty pictures!0 -

These design packages have the option to build a room or house from scratch using whatever dimensions you have - in metric or imperial. You can insert alcoves, chimney breasts, partition walls, have different ceiling heights etc with ease, the windows can be placed at whatever height you wish and sized appropriately. The building part isn't limited by being american based at all.
There are some limitations on the furniture, but even then you can get a fair approximation by stretching and colouring items as you wish.0 -
i have to say the 3d design deluxe is pretty good but be warned you will have to measure absolutely everything.. including furniture etc if you want perfection. also its so good that it lets you customise everything down to the color/fabric on sofas.ummm...0
