End of the month Amsterdam trip - cheapest commute

Good evening everyone,

I am looking to go Amsterdam on the 31st Aug until 3rd or 4th sept. There's a total of 4 for this trip including me. Flights are roughly £80 return from Gatwick, London per person.

We dont mind coach or train but prices seem either the same as a flight or even more expensive. I have used flight checker and a few other search methods and seem to find that taking plane is cheaper.

Are there any deals of special offers we could advantage of that I may not know of?

Coach is around £50 per person but that means a day lost in travel, so, an extra night to make up for it equal the same.

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Regards,

MkR

Do you have a stash of tesco vouchers? currently £25 in vouchers would give you 9,000 avios then you pay £27 fee for a return to AMS with BA

Another option is train and boat. There are cheap Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry tickets with train travel at both ends included

If you can fly from Southend with hand baggage only you can have flights for all four of you for £233.16

Thanks for your replies. Ferry works out at £89 per person, totally not worth it!

Southend route is something which I am considering, but the ticket for rail from London to Southend for 4 would equal the same as getting a flight from heathrow.

Around £80 is ok for flights, its accomodation thats getting me crazy, so, expensive!

hostels are charging similar prices to apartments!
  • https://www.ryanairhotels.com is reasonably priced for city hotels.

Have you tried booking.com for hotels, but amsterdam is not a cheap place to stay if you want any kind of comfort

If you were worried about train fare, you can have these flights (http://soc.li/efOQ3hd) for £206 the all three people can go on the train from City Thameslink to Luton airport parkway for £25 on a GroupSave ticket.

If you were worried about train fare, you can have these flights (http://soc.li/efOQ3hd) for £272 the all three people can go on the train from City Thameslink to Luton airport parkway for £25 on a GroupSave ticket.

I'm confused how getting a train up to Luton for flights that are £90 each is better than going to Gatwick for £80! Unless they got the Gatwick price wrong (which sounds likely come to think of it, otherwise you would have found it doing your search!).
