Mid-week breaks

Hi all!
Me and my girlfriend are looking for a midweek break somewhere 1st week of October. We've looked at Center Parcs and like the idea but it seems costly.
We've looked at Hoseasons, Forestholidays and a few others. Are these are any good, we were looking at the forest of dean breaks for the above 2 but neither of us drive so we need things to be fairly close to the doorstep of the accommodation.
Basically, we're looking for a short, relaxing break away somewhere but with activities around such as swimming, bike riding, sports etc. much like Center Parcs but cheaper than the £550 it would cost.
We're in Bristol and would need to be within a couple of hours drive (so nowhere north of say Birmingham).
The Hoseasons Forest of Dean break seems reasonable in terms of price but is there much to do once there and is it easily accessible?
Any ideas are welcome.
Many Thanks

We love Manor house hotel near Okehampton. One price for full board and lots of activities not to far for you to travel. We often look at center parks and then look at how much the activities will cost and then the food and always end up booking here.
