Quite possible, I done the same with worse history than mentioned. Go into the bank and apply with a person rather than online. My application was referred to the branch manager but after explaining my situation it was accepted. From my own experience and friends, natwest and barclays seem to be most forthcoming.

Almost certainly - even my partner (terrible credit history) got one. His is HSBC, I don't know if they maybe have more tollerance? Halifax turned me down back when I was pretty damn solvent and with a generally good file, disappointing.

If she already holds an account (standard) then the existing bank might be a good starting place as they go off their own records normally for products rather than credit files.
    On the up :D
