If you have already got a tower why are you thinking of spending loads of money buying a new one. What you could do is have your existing one up graded. All you would have to do is get the Ram upgraded and a new graphics card. This should save you hundreds of pounds. I would go to a independant computer shop and ask there advice. If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0

What are the specs of your current pc? There must be a reason it is slow. If it's got a new graphics card I'm not sure why you need an entirely new pc when it could simply be a couple of components that need upgrading. £750 may get you a decent pc but not anything I'd call a gaming pc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I dunno, £750 will get you a core 2 duo, 2Gb RAM and a reasonable Graphics card. £800-850 will get you something pretty good.
To be honest if I was your OH firstly I'd be extremely grateful you were going to spend £750 on my birthday. Secondly I'd rather have the cash and then spec up exactly what I want myself.
To be able to help more we'd need to know things like what sort of games does he play? What size monitor has he got? If he's got a huge 30" widescreen monitor he's going to need a beats of a graphics card to be able to run games at high resolutions. If he's only got a 17" monitor a midrange card will be fine.
As you may have gathered by now the Graphics card is probably hte key element in a Gaming PC and the prices vary enormously. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
will also be useful to know what types of games he plays and how seriously he plays them.
Someone who plays the latest FPSs for hours on end is going to have drastically different needs to someone who pops the sims on every couple of weeks..0 -

I agree a very decent pc but I still wouldn't personally call it a gaming pc (but I'm sure that's just me), but since we don't know the specs of the current pc it may be the same and an actual problem causing it to be slow. What's this "new graphics card" for example. You'd get much more for the £750 by upgrading only the components (depending on current pc) you need to rather than buying an entirely new pc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You must have very high standards Superscraper!!:D
and deep pockets! :rotfl:
That's not a bad spec at all for most games.
Personally I still think the OP would be better giving her OH the cash and letting him decide whether to upgrade or replace. That way he can get exactly what he wants rather than what someone else has chosen. He's going to have the best idea of exactly what he needs. It's my problem, it's my problem

I wish, I'm probably still living in the 90s. There's an article in this month's Custom PC about building a decent pc (for gaming) for £446. So I take back everything I said and I stand corrected."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
