Hi Guys
I have been offered a job working for DRL / Appliances Online in Manchester, selling extended warranties on the white goods which they sell for many of the big retail companies.
Looking through the internet it seems they have been upsetting a lot of their customers with pressure selling and something that the customer doesnt actually need.
The starting salary is 16k rising each year of completion but how many employees actually stay longer than a year and the claims of high potential earnings always makes me concerned.
Anyone had experience working for or with them, past sales agents maybe??
Dont want to start another sales job with no prospects
thanks for anyones help.

I can't help directly, but when I was looking for a new fridge freezer recently, I decided not to buy from this company after reading all the reviews by people who had received these phonecalls. I imagine that they keep their basic prices low to attract customers from whom they hope to profit from the insurance. It sounds like a very difficult job.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Me neither - but I have bought from them, exceedingly happy with their price and service, and have not been in the slightest bit pressurised to buy an extended warranty. They asked at the time of purchase, I said no, and except for letters reminded me that I can still buy one every now and then, nothing at all. Certainly no pressure. Not that it would work.0

Hi,
I currently work for DRL / Appliances Online. I find it a great company to work for with lots of opportunity for growth and development.
In regards to your comments about selling extended warranties – we take any complaints about the way they are sold very seriously and will always investigate any issues that are brought to our attention. We have a quality department that oversee this to ensure we are being fair and customer focused at all times.

...If you can't help directly then why 'help' at all? I have purchased 2 Warranty's from DRL for different appliances I have purchased and the warranty that covers my fridgefreezer has been fantastic. I purchased a very expensive freezer and the manufacturers warranty did not cover the repair work, in fact the manufacturers were useless, however the DRL warranty has proved invaluable at only £4.99 per month and after having my fridgefreezer for only 7 months I got a brand new replacement which effectively cost me £34.93. The agents who sold me both my warranties were both unbelievably polite and built a lovely rapport with me! It was brilliant talking to people who work in a UK call centre and they clearly had fantastic training. All I heard was laughing and clapping in the background, it sounded a great office to work in, when I asked the agent what was happening, she told me that the 'food' order had come in as the company gives free snacks and drinks to all their staff throughout the day. Just sounded fantastic, I couldn't speak more highly of this company and I can't even understand why anyone would give any bad feedback to them...and also can't understand why anyone wouldn't take out this warranty-I also have the British Gas Warranty and Nikon Warranty and also found both of these as invaluable.0 -
Unusual two newbies falling over themselves to say what a great company this is. Look forward to your comments on excellent service provided by asian call centres pretending to be from Microsoft too.0

By saying that I couldn't help directly, I meant that I had never worked for these companies. By posting the results of my research as a potential buyer, I was trying to warn the OP that there might be pressure on employees to reach sales targets for warranties - his question was about working for these companies.
Colino, I agree with you!Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Appliances online are untrustworthy. Spam comments here just start to reveal the level of deception and corruption this company stoops to on a regular basis.
DRL runs Appliances Online and they use Boots the chemists and Next the clothing companies logo to sell appliances. They have set up Boots and Next websites for appliances: the small print on those sites says it is operated byDRL. I mean, why would you buy a fridge from a chemist, or a tailor?!
This company is unscrupulous and very greedy. They manipulate as much online content as they can with fake reviews and removal of negative reviews.
The only pro is a low price but that is circumvented by the hard selling of insurance where the price ends up being not so cheap after all.
Whatever happened to real after sales service, a real place of business you can walk in to and touch the goods you want to buy?
Lat thing: just Remember Appliances Online / DRL are responsible for the demise of Comet PLC and thousands of jobs.0 -

Firstly Steve...bitter much? maybe you should apply there if you're out of a job, at least their staff members vote them 4th best company to work for and they have a very open facebook page with 1 million likes (and this might hurt but I liked them too)
And I think you will actually find the demise of Comet came from poor customer service from the top dogs and lack of repeat customers. Say what you like about me being a 1st time writer on here but I had actually googled where I could leave a good comment on drl service and I noticed this page which is complete rubbish-not even backed up by facts0 -
I've bought from them a few times, and certainly would again. I have no waranties though.0
