Unable to Cancel MBNA Credit Card

New to forum, apologies if this has been discussed, not sure how to search.
I wrote to MBNA telling them I wanted to cancel my card with immediate effect. Got, "sorry you want to cancel, if you're sure sign this cancellation slip and return." I did, and was sent another cancellation slip. I have now told them twice I want to cancel this card yet they are still sending me offers for my card ending **** so I assume my account is still open despite me having a zero balance for two years. As far as I am concerned, my original signed letter requesting cancellation should be enough. I don't have the card and have since moved home (I fortunately have access to my old address.) I have absolutely no idea how to get rid of them. Does anyone have any ideas?

call them, they will do it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I recently cancelled mbna card. Sent them a letter advising balance was zero, card had been cut up and no transactions were pending. Got letter back within a few days confirming cancellation (with usual rider that balance must be at zero before cadd account can be closed).. I presume I gkt no request slip to return because I confirmed card destroyed and nothing outstanding.
Do you stjll have money owing or a final interest amount to be added?

I didn't particularly want to cancel mine but after I'd not used it for a year, they cancelled it for me :rotfl:

Bear in mind that even if you successfully close the account and they acknowledge this, any continuous payment authorities (CPAs) could still go through. If you don't update them with your new address, you might not know this for a while and this could result in late payment charges, interest etc.

It is your right to cancel CPAs with the CC. If writing to the CC, you might want to make it make it clear with them that thereby you also cancel any outstanding CPAs. They might not like that, and without referring to the specific CPAs concerned it might not be effective. But it could be useful if there is a squabble later.

Of course, even better if you haven't signed any CPAs or are clear who you signed them with so you can update the merchant with new card details.

    Thank you all, most grateful.
I paid this off in full including any outsanding interest two years ago. I don't get statements anymore but after the two cancellation slips I have never had confirmation that it has been cancelled. I still get the special offers on my card for balance transfers which are great offers but after four years of credit card debt I finally have cleared them all. Fortunately my old address is my Sister's otherwise their refusal to accept my cancellation requests would become a serious security issue.
I will try to phone them tomorrow but unless I am being dim, I can't see a number on the website. Perhaps I'll call the number they give to try to get you into more debt and ask to be transferred!

I recently closed two dormant MBNA cards, all I did was send them a message via the online account site, both were closed within 24 hours.

I have called them and fingers crossed this time it is cancelled. Apparently I was £1 in credit which the operator suggested may be a reason why I kept getting these cancellation slips without the card being cancelled. Not sure why they couldn't have just refunded the £1 and cancelled it, or at least tell me this was the reason why, but I guess these things are automated.
    Thanks all for you help
