Views please - will it look right?!

Currently doing up the house i bought.

The living room and dining room are the same space with an archway.

I was intially thinking of getting rid of the arch but i now kinda like the fact there is some corners on the walls for the TV etc.

Anyhow i was wondering if anyone has had carpet in the living room then laminate/wood in the dining room? Mealtimes can be messy and the dining room has a patio door into the garden so im thining of mess on the carpet.

WOuld it look right? What would you put between - just normal metal grabber things? (see i know the right terminology and everything!!!!)

Thanks in advance

If it's just an arch, then I think it would look absolultely fine. You might have issues with different floor levels so you'll need more than a simple metal door bar, but you can get all sorts from your flooring co that will match the flooring that you put down.

We have a square gap in the wall between our lounge and dining room and we have carpet in the lounge and laminate in the dining room. Although we do have double french doors in the gap, they are often open and it doesn't look odd.

Between the laminate and the flooring, we had fitted a 1½/2 inch wide strip of oak which looks real nice. It is level with the carpet on one side but there is a slight drop to the laminate on the other. It doesn't look odd, and we've never tripped over it.

Before we moved in, the gap was open and arched but someone kindly blocked it off to make it square and fitted french doors and it looks really nice.
