I have a new job in a neighbouring LA, my start date will be 15 October, however my last working day at old job will be 28 Sept as I have Leave to use up. Can I start new job on 01 October and get paid from both LA's or is there some reason why this cannot happen?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

If your last working day with your current employer is 28 September and have leave to use up, I assume your actual date of termination is 14 October. Is that right?0 -

Yes - I'll be paid by the old employer until the 14th.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
I don't know the rules but would guess (and others can come along and say if this is so) that moving between local authorities is likely not to allow double employment.
However, why not have your employment officially terminated on 30 September and have your accrued holiday entitlement paid. Then there would be no problem with starting work on 1 October.
Or is it that the notice required to be given takes you to beyond 1 October in any case?0 -

I will be giving 2 months notice end of next week or beginning of week after which would take m to about 13 Oct - but Ihave the two weeks leave to use - my LA does not pay for leave and will insist I take it off. I don't want to sit at home for 2 weeks.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
*if* this was my LA and our rules - if you started on 1st we would allow you to work and be paid (even if your previous LA were paying AL), if you took AL and didn't want to start until the 15th it would form part of your AL entitlement.0

I get the first bit - but how would Al at old LA form part of new entitlement? New LA have different holiday years so assumed I would start from scratch in October accruing from start date - is this not the case?Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

Probably a silly question but will you have accrued the two weeks holiday by the time your notice expires, 13 October, or is that the remainder of your entitlement for the year?0 -
A lot of LA contracts will say that you can't dual work without permission from the employers - if you have an amenable boss/HR you may be able to get permission to work whilst you take the leave.
On a different note, if you want to maintain your continuous service then you should state in your notice that your last day in employment with them will be the day before you start your new job (14th October even if that isn't a normal working day for you and you would be off anyway) unless they do allow you the overlap. If there is a gap in employment (even just a day or two) some LAs won't consider you to have continuous employment which could affect your leave entitlement and any future redundancy.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

If I don't get permission can I take temp work for 2 weeks? Very good offer on the table for 2 weeks work but I would rather start new jo0b if I can.
I have been in this job for 10 years so continuous service important.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0
