Financial association with my ex?

in Credit cards
Hi,
I was declined for an RBS credit card today and decided to go onto experian website to view my credit history. I can see that I'm down as being financially associated with my ex who I broke up with 5 years ago. We once applied for a morgage together but decided not to go ahead (thankfully) but I'd like to get his name off my credit info. I know for a fact he has a very bad credit history and concerned that it might be affecting my credit history.
I would be grateful if anyone on here could help tell me how I go about getting his name off.
Thanks
Lucy

Did you actually take out a mortgage together?
That will drop off your files after 6 years.
What salary are you on versus total debt?0 -
Can you see who 'confirmed' the association? (you can on a £2 statutory paper report). It may well not be the (potential) mortgage company.I can see that I'm down as being financially associated with my ex
You may be able to disassociate yourself from your ex. Go back to the Experian homepage and search (top right) for 'disassociation'.0 -
If you have no joint accounts get it removed, they are only created by joint accounts.0

Nevertheless, is the joint account with the mortgage lender still open? If so you need to contact the lender and close it. Then I agree with YorkshireBoy, go for disassociation. If successful then the association should be removed not only on Experian but also on Equifax and Call Credit because the disassociation should be communicated between the CRAs. Note the "should" which doesn't mean "will".0

If you contact Experian with the details (no account actually opened, want to disassociate, reference from the credit report) they will do the disassocation for you, and they used to contact the other reference agencies on your behalf too - worth checking though as I did this several years ago:xmastree:POMDB Xmas 2013 Board - Paid off £12k in 2012 :j:j :xmastree:
