Tax Credits wonderings.

Hello.
I have been out of work for over a year now (just cannot seem to find a job
1 interview in a year) and I had some confusion with my Working Tax Credits renewal form when it came through. It stated that they owed me an amount of money and having a terrible time looking online I finally figured out that it was money they had paid me in the beginning of the tax year.
I only worked 3 months at the beginning of the tax year (contract ended) and thought nothing about renewing my information as they seemed to have all of it on the letter. I decided on my last sign on day (sigh) to call up and a woman on the phone had told me that I was still owed over £200 and that I just had to tell her the income that I had received in those 3 months and my current situation.
So, my general wondering is how long will that take to be processed? I called her on 26/07/2012. I understand that some people receive it in the bank weeks before they get letters and if I remember right, I believe the woman had also said that it could just "Turn Up".
Thank you very much for reading, any information at all will be helpfull (even though I have done this I will be calling on 09/082012 from the job centre again
