I'm seriously considering switching to Toucan which I believe Pipex own or run. I was wondering if any other board members had any experience of Toucan and if so was it good, bad or ugly :rotfl: . I intend to switch line rental and go for the 2 for 1 package which should save me about £30 yearly. Any comments would be greatly accepted.
Thanks

Theirs a long thread about them here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=249103&highlight=toucan
They are part of Pipex. Up for sale at moment, favourite to buy Virgin Media.
Its not a good idea to move your line rental from BT,for various reasons.
If your interested in cutting your phone bill read Heinzs post here.

Just a warning to you and anyone else considering Toucan. I've had real problems with these guys. I asked them to set me up with basic package line-rental etc last year and got no service from them and ended up using my mobile. After using my mobile for a while I went back to BT but problems started when I left BT to go to TalkTalk (who put me on thier most expensive package, though I make nominal amount of calls).
Toucan have in recent weeks started to threaten me with court action for a cancellation charge for less than £20.00. Their legal arm soon stopped when I wrote back, but they are now invoicing me for the services that I pay TalkTalk for. I believe I was also double charged previously between Toucan and Onetel.
My advice, stay well clear of them!0 -
toucan themselves are not a problem. they are just very quick at transfering you outstanding bill to a debt collecting agency (DLC) and you could easily end up with a bad credit rating by going on holiday.I'm seriously considering switching to Toucan which I believe Pipex own or run. i incurred £20 administration fee + a bad credit reference by going on holiday.
all over a 27p balance.
being fair to toucan they have reduced my line rental to £6.99 a month. i receive my 2mb broadband for free through 'orange' because my mobile bill is over £25 a month.
thus i receive 500 mobile mins + bband + texts + home line rental + unlimited calls to land lines + overseas calls ++++ all for 6.99+29.79 a month.
i would be interested if anyone can get me a cheaper deal than this.0 -
Hi
I have had serious problems with Toucan Broadband....
I ordered the broadband, and went live, when I came to log on it would not work. I had to call the tech services which are 30p per min and go to a call centre in India. This still didn't help. I called back an another guy checked the line and it had a fault.
An engineer called and said it was fixed, and it worked. I logged on and got.....wait for it....the massive speed of 192Kb. Just a little over dial up, and it kept dropping off line.
To eliminate the computer we set it up on two, one laptop runs on XP and the other on VISTA. Both computers had the same problem. It was certainly a problem with the line, and not our computers.
I rang Toucan customer services they could not help...YEP you have to ring the premium rate line and speak to some fellow in India.
No joy. I spent ages (and loads of money) trying to sort it.
In the end I cancelled the service after 7 days. It was pants, no one in customer services would help. Toucan said it was acceptable!! Yes they are going to hold me to the 12 months contract.
Incidentally if you want to speak to a manager they call you back 48 hours later. If you miss the call you have to book another ring back for 48 hours time. How frustrating.!
I explained that they broke the contract by not supplying the service which I paid for... they say I broke the contract by cancelling but hey It will go to court because I am not paying them a penny. (This will damage my credit rating)
Toucan both phone and broadband give you negative credit ratings on the experian website for just being late paying a bill. BEWARE. If you are not good at paying on time, this has the potential to damage your credit rating, unlike with other phone companies.
I feel upset that I have to ring an expensive phone number to tech services to report a fault with the line. If I need help with my equipment, or knowledge this may be acceptable, but not when the line and is servicability is out of my control.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with Toucan Broadband as I would like to gather people up so we can all help each other. This service sucks....Anyway both phone line, and soon broadband are going back to BT.:T
I would like to say that I have been with Toucan for my phone and line rental for over a year with no problems. However I changed to them as I thought it was cheaper. It worked out the same as Talk Talk, I don't believe I gained much from the change.
