I do if i can, but if you were only 37p away, why didnt you just add a choccy bar on or something? you'd still have saved more..!

If something like that happened to me, I wouldn't go for the choccy bar, but a tin of pet food to donate to the RSCPA bin.

I try to when I can, either to the person behind me, or someone who was looking at a product that I had a voucher for. I do give away the till spits - but normally to those who's shopping seems to be filled with majority value stuff.

If I can't find someone who will take the vouchers then I give them to the casheir and ask them either to use them or pass them on (you get to know the kind of person that they are and will pass on or not). Most of my cashiers at the local Asda and Tesco let me know if I have some thing in my shopping that may be cheaper even if it is else where!

I have had people offer me their school vouchers and I have asked for them also even though they are no good to me yet - once I get enough I send them to the local special needs school.

I do offer out my parking ticket and at times even attach to machine when people turn it down as they 'don't have enough change' even when you say it's free. But now our hospital car park uses car reg. on the ticket, and local council ones need to be put in at the barriers as well as the ones for Asda.
  • I giveaway my vouchers etc too, pass on parking tickets, put spare vouchers/till spits by the pigeon holes at work (quite a lot of people do this i've noticed) so hopefully they will have been picked up by someone else to use. my work colleagues love me for all my vouchers and tips! I gave them all lots of my 5p Comforts last year!

I like random acts of kindess too! I give the JS vouchers to family as I don't use them. And if I see someone at Tesco about to buy something I know is cheaper (such as Surf small and mighty 28 wash cheaper than 18 wash) I'll tell them.

A couple of months ago I was behind a man at the till who couldn't afford to pay for all his shopping - he's was short about 80p or so and was having to decide what to put back (looked like he was maybe a single parent) so I just paid the extra for him. He was so touched and gave me his clubcard points in return.

A week later I was at the petrol pumps and a man came up and gave me a 5p off voucher - so what goes around comes around!

my point was to get something low value to take it over the £40 spend, but fair enough!

There are still some good people out there. I would of done the same :)
  • Some years ago, during my first visit to London, two very kind guys gave me and my friend their day passes for the underground. It was such a kind gesture and I still remember it today. I vowed to do the same one day and finally I manged to accomplish it just a few months ago by giving my day pass for the Tube to a cute couple: giving can be just as nice as receiving :)
I also helped two children with their bill once: poor things had exact change but had picked up some chocolates which were more expensive than what they had so the shop assistant just grabbed them away from their hands while they stood there in dismay. It was lovely to see their faces light up when she let them through after I gave her the rest of the money :)
In general I feel pretty shy about approaching strangers and giving them coupons even though I am sure most of them would appreciate it...maybe we should all wear MSE badges so we can recognize each other and share/exchange vouchers without worrying.
  • I have passed coupons on to people before, and also give my car park ticket to someone else if possible. Most people are very grateful, and several times I have been given a car park ticket.

Where I live, all the local car parks make you put in part of your registration number to stop tickets being passed on.

That didn't stop being given a ticket with 2 hours left as the ticket machine only puts in numbers of the reg. As the lady and myself both had the same number reg (57) - I was lucky.
