Cheapest First Class tickets to Cornwall

First Capital Connect do have a first class section but it's no different to the rest of the seating, just a token gesture! The Truro - Falmouth train is only 2 carriages with no first class or seat reservations. Sounds like your suggestion is a good one if the OP can change their travel dates.
OP, have you considered the night time riviera service? I haven't looked at prices for you but I've gotten cheap fares on it previously and the seats and foot room are the same as first class (certainly bigger than standard). Over night travel isn't for everyone though
Yes, the First Capital Connect first class section is so bad that I don't know why people would bother! And as you say, the Truro to Falmouth train is tiny, in fact it's like something out of the ark!
I'm not bothered about those parts of the journey, it's the Paddington to Truro one that I want first class for anyway. It makes the journey so much more comfortable and enjoyable for a 5 hour journey.Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0 -
I'm wondering why you don't wan tto split tickets - you may need to change seats but not trainsproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0

Have you tried thetrainline?
Currently showing £90 out and £75 return first class.
Edit. Sorry, that's just for one ticket.
We have found good deals on there in the past though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. A few options spring to mind:
Try splitting the journey at London and/or Truro Just buying first class for the one long section (there is no First Class Truro to Falmouth anyway)
Consider travelling on the Night Riviera sleeper service, all the seats on it are old first class seats or you could go for a cabin in which case you can lay flat.
Travel standard class but get your local station to allocate you a "Priority" seat, these airline seats have extra leg room but are not normally offered for reservation.
Otherwise you'll probably have to pay the extra, unfortunately fares are not subsidised to the same extent and the number of people travelling has increased so there is no longer a requirement on many services to offer discounted fares to fill otherwise empty seats.0 -
Oops should have added consider getting cashback if you do buy online, topcashback will offer reasonable rates if you'll book with Southern (ATOS Origin booking interface) or Virgin Trains (Trainline booking interface).
Under no circumstances should anyone be booking using Trainline's own website if they want to aspire to being a money saving expert due to their fees which do not apply when booking via a train operating company.0 -

There are circumstances when it's worth it, even with the booking fee. I recently got my OH a first class ticket to London (over 1 hour away) for only a few pounds more than trainline were offering economy ones. The total, including fees, was significantly less than if we bought it direct from the train operator.
You do have to shop around though. We have in the past got better deals by going direct to the train operator's website.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Victor2 anything offered by the Trainline is also offered on the Virgin Trains, South West Trains (and other train operating companies) without the fees as these websites all use the same interface to access the fares.0

Unfortunately the times are way out but I'll keep checking that website.
Could you tell me whereabouts on their site that you saw the cheapest price it can be please? Many thanks.
sorry for delay, yes when you book your tickets you can see the price catagories at the top of the page in boxes and it has a to anf from price so ou will see standard is starts at £35 for 2 each way and first class at £95 for 2 each way. so that is the cheapest the tickets can be on that site.0 -

Very interesting Flugelhorn, wish I'd known about this on Friday night. I'd gone to my GP with an aching hip and also mentioned that my calf was aching quite a bit during the night. He examined my calf, said it was slightly swollen and given my family history, he wanted it to be checked out. So he told me he wanted me to go straight to the Acute Assessment Unit at the hospital & I would be given a blood test immediately, but have to wait up to 3 hours for the results.
My daughter came in from work 10 minutes later and took me, only for the AAU to say they weren't up and running yet! They sent me to A & E, we got there at 6.15pm and I finally had the blood test 5 hours later, at 11.15pm !! (This was even though I had told the triage nurse what the doctor had said). It was a shambles, people were going into the emergency room to ask what was going on as they'd had to wait for so long.Money, money, money, must be funny, in the rich man's World!0 -
Many thanks for your replies. I'm a bit nervous about splitting tickets in case something goes wrong, Martin has mentioned this before, so I'd rather stick to the norm.
I had a look at the Night Riviera, but it will work out more expensive that way, but thankyou.
Thanks fishdude for the info.
