Barclaycard payment clearance issues

I've been having issues with my barclaycard payments recently and would be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced the same issues.
I've had the card for years and have a direct debit set up to pay a set amount and have never missed a payment.
For some reason, for the past few months, instead of the payment being taken on one day and showing as cleared on my account the following day, now my payment is being being taken from my bank as usual but then taking up to a week to show as cleared on my barclaycard account. For instance, my payment this month was taken on the 31st July and I've just been told by them that it will clear on the 6th August.
Barclaycard just give me the same excuse every time, that it can take some time for my bank to honour the payment. I've checked with my bank (Firstdirect) and there are no issues on their side, the funds are always available and the payment always shows as being cleared on the day it has been called for by Barclaycard. I find it hard to believe, that in the days when we have instant payments between banks, that it can take up to a week for a direct debit payment to clear, particularly when I had no issues for years.
I am getting increasingly frustrated with Barclaycard and am seriously considering paying off the card and closing it. I don't have this issue with my other credit card.

If you are paying by direct debit why is it bothering you at all?
If you are paying the balance in full it should not affect you in any way.
There is nothing new here it has been this way for years.0
