Bank account for sixth former

Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend a suitable bank account for a sixth former? My DD has had an under 16 account with Abbey/Santander, and is quite keen to have an online account to start sixth form with. Do I just look for a best buy adult account? I'm not interested in the student accounts with large overdrafts - she can go for one of those when/if the time comes.
Thanks

I would have thought she was old enough to do some research for herself - particularly if she wants to use an on-line account.

I was also with Santander when under 16, I just carried on and set up online banking, it had no credit facilities.0

LTSB has an under 19 account.
Don't worry about student accounts and overdrafts you won't be offered one if you are not a University student.0 -
If alances are going to be nominal, I'd go for the ank with most convenient branch and ATM that isn't called Santander.
Lloyds TSB for interest rate.0 -
Most high street banks offer a range of accounts. If the person is under 18 then do not worry too much about the overdraft situation as they are not able to have one until they reach 18. A student account would only be available once they are over 18 and going to university. However they would be able to get a debit card facility that they can use in the shops/online etc.
If you are looking for savings until they are 18 then check out the Junior ISA - 6% at Halifax. Junior ISA though is no withdrawals until they turn 18, but not a bad rate in the current climate.0 -

Possibly but if like me when I was a 6th former I generally spent my time researching people of the opposite sex and which pubs allowed under 18s in :beer:0 -
DD is 17 and she changed from Barclays to Lloyds TSB and hasn't had any problems at all. She has a visa card that she can use everywhere. I can also transfer funds to her instantly as I also have an account with them.To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0

You can transfer funds to her instantly regardless of the bank she is with.0 -
The TSB Under 19's account is a good suggestion
