capital one ......

Last month i applied for a capital one progress card through the website. I have had the classic card for 7 months and have paid it all regulary on time and kept within my limit.

when i contacted them about my application they stated that as i already had a classic card that i could not have a progress card as well. i told them that was incorrect and after they went around all the house and different departments they conceeded that i was correct and that they would have to manual rekey the application.

2 weeks later i rang them and they stated that my application had been successfully abiet with only a £200 credit limit but hey i thought thats a start and they said i would get my card. They would have to send out a CCA for me to sign as the one i did originally was a electronic one.

They then state thaty my application has been declined. I questioned this as i had already been told that it had been accepted and all they needed was my signature. They said that they did some checks which they would have done in any event priot to originally stating to me that my application had been approved.

so i appealed and gave a full account as to what had happened and all they have now done is send me a bog standard your application has been declined letter.

!!!!!!

    !!!!!!

It's a bit of a muddle, but I think you have to accept that Capital One don't want to give you a Progress card.

What APR do you have on your Classic card? If it's (significantly) higher than 29.9%, which is the starting APR for the Progress card, that may indicate why your application was rejected.

The only advantage a Progress card has over a Classic card is that the interest rate reduces over time. So, it's only useful if you intend to carry a balance on it. If that's the case, a loan would probably be a cheaper option.
