I think you could be confident of catching the bus at 10.50. So think if there is anything that would be pleasant to do for about four hours (or less) while waiting. Perhaps take a laptop and a good film? In some ways it is pleasant to have a break between a long flight and a long bus-ride.0

thanks dug123, was this at manchester?Hi, I arrived back at 12:30 (noon) on Thursday and was through passport control and waiting for suitcases by 12:45, there was a sign saying all luggage would be through by 13:15, ours was through at 13:05 so by 13:15 we were out of the arrivals hall waiting for our bus to take us back to the car park.
The problem is that flights can be delayed and passport control can be busy etc etc. I was surprised at how quickly we managed to get through.
joerugby i live cleveland area, think the times we need to return maybe 8am wont be classed as off peak0 -

You can travel on all the trains between 7 and midday on an off peak return ticket
BTW return from Middlesbrough is £58. Take a look at the nationalrail website0 -

thanks voyager, we are flying in from the carribean so they are 4/5 hours behind us, thats why i dont really want to drive home. we are looking to get home as soon as possible so dont want to be sat waiting until the 10.50am bus (i will probably fall asleep and miss it lol)0 -
will do thanks, i have only found the transpennine and priced up october fares(cant get february yet) for the days of the week we would travel on.You can travel on all the trains between 7 and midday on an off peak return ticket

If it was me, I would book the earlier coach. On airport routes NX only charge a £5 amendment fee if your flight is early/ late, so if you miss it there is not a great deal more to pay. However you do need to pay before you get on the bus, so if you book the later bus and only have minutes to spare for the early one, you might miss it whilst queueing to change your ticket.0

thanks for the idea but my sons and oh have offered to pick me up, but landing at 6am on a february morning would mean them leaving home around 4am who knows what the roads might be like, i would rather use public transport.0 -

thats good going lincoln imp i suppose at the end of the day it depends how many flights are coming in at the same time, the baggage handlers can only do so much. after posting this thread i have just been talking to a friend, she is going to pick her parents up from manchester airport tomorrow so will see how long it takes them from landing to exiting the airport.
of all the times i have landed at manchester i have never taken notice of how long it takes from landing to exiting, except once when we landed manchester at midnight, the baggage handlers seemed to be a bit on the slow side, one irate passenger kept shouting through the baggage entry to the carousel at them, think it made them go even slower we were there for ages waiting for our bags0
