Gas Supply Info

I have just done my re-assesments & while i was there i picked up some interesting info that i thought i'd pass on.

In my area they are replacing the old gas supply pipes now they are doing this by pushing a new service pipe up the inside of the old one to save digging or moling, so far so good however.......................

This is a 20mm pipe as it's the biggest one that will fit & according to the assesment center this pipe is only able to supply a 30kw boiler or less, so how many boilers & installs is this going to effect across the country with regard to boilers being correctly set up on install & now they aren't.

Comments welcome.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

That would probably be true at 20mbar, but the supply pressure in the street will probably be higher so won't affect this.

Saying that, in Norwich the gas supply is now being profiled from Peterborough. Quite often we don't even get 19 mbar now.

Apparently this saves National grid about £1,000,000 per day in saved leaks and 'fines' for polluting the atmosphere.

this was exactly the same problem i had on a job, however as you know a supply of less than 19mb is against the gas regs, so I'm wondering how many properties that were ok now aren't & if i cut to the chase who is going to pay for our wasted time waiting for the local gas transporter to turn up because we think we have a governer fault, it's not the customers fault that they have either reduced the supply pressure or reduced the pipe size & we aren't going to get any recompence from the transporter, from what i can see it will be down to the good ole installer trying to do their job correctly & safely when it isn't their fault.

You certainly have to be a little bit careful around the high pressure stuff.

Just a little tale about 1 of my near neighbours. We have high pressure reducers installed in the gardens of all houses on the road. The things with a green plastic cover, about 18" high x 1ft x2ft.

This neighbour had altered the garden to allow additional parking and had left this reducer "exposed".

You can probably guess the rest,:o but he reversed into it and cracked it on the high pressure side.:eek:

I didn't see this but several of the neighbours did, and yes it did ignite.

They say the flames were about 25ft high, but luckily vertical and nearer the road than the house, so no real damage to anyone or any property

Would have likes to have seen that.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I must admit that once I've called in a low working pressure, however small that is below 19mbar, I just TOFO. Never wait for national grid to turn up.

They can then sort it out or turn it back on if they can't achieve 19mbar. Once I've been given the job number on the phone, it is no longer my responsibility.

One of my customers is the regional manager for the gas transportation network side. He says it has been nothing but a major headache since profiling.

I always wait for them to turn up because (& it may be different in your area) i have had a number of occasions when i have gone they have turned up changed the govenor & left the supply switched off & just tell the customer to get a GSI to turn their boiler on because "it's not their job & not reg to touch appliances" so to save a call back & an irrate customer i now hang around.
