Quick question?

Hi
Myself and a colleague were at risk of redundancy earlier this year. At the time, my old manager was seconded to another role, and we were offered her role as a job share. We are therefore not in a permanent role, and my old manager could return to this role within the next 9 months or so.
It is now becoming apparent that this role is not for us, so my question is this, would we still be able to claim redundancy??
We have tried to ask the question (in a roundabout way, don't want them to have an excuse to get rid without paying anything!!) and were told that they would have to see if there were other 'suitable' roles. (There is nothing in the field we work in, could they force us to work in another department?)
Thanks in advance!

Does "earlier this year" mean more than 4 weeks ago? Because if you have been in the role for more than 4 weeks (the length of the trial period the law sets down) then you aren't entitled to refuse the role and you are stuck with it. The only way out is resigning.0

Hi marybelle
Thanks for the reply! Yes, its a few months ago! We did think this may be the case, but thanks for clarifying, we are just clutching at straws really, trying to find a way out and still getting the redundancy! Back to searching for a new job then!0
