Travel insurance start and end date?

I have a holiday booked for next month and need to get travel insurance. I'm getting single trip cover as I don't anticipate another trip within the next 12 months. On the website when completing the form for the quote it asks for:-
What is the start date of cover?
When does your trip end?
Should I enter the exact date of the holiday, i.e 3rd Sept (flying out) and 10th Sept (flying back) or should add a few days on either end in case of any issues/delays returning?

Depends on the insurance term. If you have an emergency and have to cancel you would be covered, but only if the emergency arises whilst on cover. If you bought cover for the holiday duration only, and cancelled before it started you may not have a claim.0

This is wrong.
If you're taking out a single trip policy eg just cover for a specific holiday. You should enter the dates your trip starts eg day you fly out and the end date of your trip eg the day you're due to arrive back in the UK.
On a single trip policy, should you need to cancel the trip before the start of the holiday, then providing you have purchased cover before the emergency (And before you would reasonably be aware the emergency could arise) then the single trip would cover cancellations as per the policy cover.
You're confusing it with an annual multi trip policy which would not normally cover cancellations before the date you have selected for cover to start. Hence it's normally best to arrange an annual multi trip (As it is with a single trip) as soon as you book your holiday.0 -
