European Christmas Market breaks

We are hoping to find a Eurostar break in early December, a few days taking in some Christmas markets.

Just wondered if anyone has any experience and/or recommendations, thanks.

will take a look at Aachen, thanks.
  • Eurostar to Brussels, then take the high speed train to Cologne, use that as your base + from there you can go to Bonn, Dusseldorf, Aachen etc on the local trains. You could also stay in Brussels, the main market is fun + the big wheel quite scary + the light + music display in the main square is lovely (especially in the snow) Brugges, Gent + Antwerp are all within easy train rides too. Belgian markets are not quite the same as German ones, as there are not so many restrictions on what can be sold, so there are always some "tat" stalls selling I Heart Bruges T-Shirts etc.

Valkenburg caves in Holland. I personally would go by car as much easier to drive around surrounding areas for the markets that have been said already.

Are the Valkenburg caves really worth a visit? Are they magical/ fairy tale?

Thank you very much for your ideas and suggestions. I am quite excited at the thought of planning this break, more so than I was about our recent holiday in Crete, to be honest.

I am a big Christmas fan, more so now that I have 3 grandchildren.

If you actually dont want to drive, there are so many holiday coach companies who do 3/4/5 days holidays to the Christmas Markets.

National holidays are great and do quite a lot.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Thanks, will investigate that one. My husband doesn't drive and I am not confident with driving abroad so we won't be driving.

Where abouts are you in the Country.
National have just sent me out their 'festve breaks' brochure.

They also have a pretty good website too.
Have a look, we use them a lot.

I did take a look, Annie, thanks. For some reason, they don't have departures in the South East (we are in Hertfordshire).

I suppose we are well placed for the Airports and even St Pancras for Eurostar.
