When Selling Your House, Did You Automatically Include Curtains in the Sale?

When you put your house up for sale, or when you bought one, did you expect:
- Curtains to be left behind by default, included in the price?
- All the curtains to be removed by the sellers - they cost good money/they love them?
- Curtains to be sold to the buyers, for some extra cash?

Yeah I have sold the house along with the curtains and it's a good deal right. The thing is that I am permanently shifting to UK. So I don't need any thing with me. i thought I can get a good price on this house so I left with the house itself. It's brand new curtains and it is well designed..0

In my limited experience, having sold one house and buying another:
I left the curtains behind. I'd made them, but they fit those windows specifically (large square bay) and given our strange first buyer wanted white goods thrown in at no extra cost, I assumed to some degree curtains were going to be needed too. Plus house was vacant for a while and needed to be softened in some fashion.
In the house we're buying, they're leaving us the poles etc. But we have bought new curtains for the house we rent and they'll go up as a start until decorating etc done.0 -
Mine was a bit of both I left some as they were size specific and didn't need them for new house, however the ones I could use I took. However I did leave all curtain poles and roller blinds as well0

leaving all curtains apart from those in the living room which were expensive/a favourite design0

I think it is very simple: if you can reuse the curtains (size-wise and design-wise), take them, unless the buyer specifically request them - then you can sell them for some extra cash (that will also help for your new curtains). But I think you can leave the poles behind because it is kind of fixtures0

If the curtains won't fit the new place, I would leave them. When you move in it is nice to have something at the windows even if you may change them later. We took one set with us but found an old pair to put up for the buyer so that she had some for the time being. Unless the buyer is trying to screw you, I would err on the side of kindness.Je suis sabot...0

In the last two houses we've sold we've taken virtually all curtains except roman blinds in a couple of rooms as these wouldn't be able to be reused in the new house. Our curtains have fabric designs (Liberty etc) that have been chosen specifically to compliment our furniture and many of the fabrics are out of production/expensive plus wouldn't be to our buyers' taste so we have chosen to take them when moving.
Our last set of buyers asked if we would leave the curtains in the main reception room as the bay window was double height and they'd had a quote running to many hundreds to replace these. The fabric was no longer available (and wouldn't have suited their modern furniture anyway) and whilst the windows were twice the height of those in our new house we refused - even though they offered to buy them - and we have been able to reuse the fabric to make three pairs for our new main reception roomMortgage-free for fourteen years!

We left them in the houses hubby and I sold as freebies as theyd been up ages and didnt fit our new house. We bought the ones for the house we own now as a separate deal as they matched and it was just easier for moving in.Light Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0
