Can I be classed as a new customer with my existing car insurers?

My car insurance is due for renewal next sunday and I've found out that if I were a new customer my insurance company would charge me £359 where as my renewal quote is £420 - so I could save myself £70!
Is it better to cancel my old policy and set up a new one (with the advatage of going through greasypalm and getting another £30!) or do I ring up and complain?

Some companies will give you the better price if you phone and complain. Depends how much you want the cashback as well. No reason why you couldn't start again as a new customer. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0

Yes you can do this just remember to cancel the old policy though as they may automatically renew itBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

Every year when I get my renewal notice for both the house and car I tend to renew as a new customer as it is always cheaper. don't forget to go through Quidco too to get money back ! My insurance as never been so cheap since Quidco was mentioned on this site"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

The only problem with this is if you have a claim that requires a decision on something that isnt clear cut if you have been a customer for a while it is more likely to work in your favour
I myself do get new quotes but then ring and ask them to link my old policy number
Ive done this for years with no problems0
