Car leasing excess mileage

I'm hoping someone with experience of car leasing could answer this one. Is it best to always go for a 10,000 mile pa lease and pay excess mileage charges or go for a higher mileage allowance in the first place. I've seen the difference in monthly leases can be anything from £50 extra per month between a 10K and 15K pa lease whereas the excess mileage charges can be as little as 4p per mile?

Surely with that as an example you'd be a fool to pay up front for a higher mileage lease, or would there be any further charges for exceeding the mileage by so much?

Depends on the car and the lease. Most of my colleagues have leases where the excess mileage charge is between 6 to 12 pence per mile. So 4p seems cheap. And I bet VAT will be needed to be added.

Usually six and half a dozen, so in general take the lower price and pay the excess. But do the sums and as said add the VAT.

Are you likely to exceed the mileage every month over the whole term or just every now and then.

Normally i do less than 6000 a year, But i had family issues recently and did that in 3 months.

Luckily my insurance only charged me £20 to bump it upto 15,000. I was expecting their fee to be more than that, never mind the total cost.
