Is it worth getting personal injury cover?

Dear All
Do you usually get personal injury cover for your car insurance? I am not sure whether it's worth it. The ins. company is saying £5k as standard or pay extra £43.20 pa for both my husband and I and it will take it up to £50k coverage.
It is another add on which isn't huge but it does all add up...so would like some extra opinions.....
Had a look at other threads but not sure I can find an answer!
thanks in advance.

Do you understand what it covers you for?0

Yes, as I recall it's for minor injuries like fractured thumbs. It also covers you if you incur an injury be it an own fault or otherwise.0

Which Company is it Swintons or Admiral ?
Are you a member of a union0 -
This is another example of an insurance industry inventing products that only benefit the insurance industry. If it was so important, it would have been invented years ago.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Dacouch - how did you guess?!
Yes, it's Admiral.
Am member of a union at work but they don't cover me for driving injuries - only those in the worklace.0 -
It's very over priced, it's worth circa £10.
You say you understand what's covered, forgive me for making it clear what's covered and what's not.
It only covers you in car accidents, you could get cover for probably lower price that would cover you in car accidents, airplanes and public transport in fact you could probably get cover for your family for at any time.
The loss of sight and hearing and limbs are only £15k
Fingers and thumbs are as low as £1000
Only covers named drivers on the policy not your kids
The Permanent Total Disablement is subject to you not being able to carry out any type of work rather than your normal work. This means that if say you are a teacher they could say you could actually sit down all day and work as a checkout operator so would not be entitled to claim under this section
It's massively over priced, if you're worried about personal accident, you could get better cover, for a similar price or a bit more which would cover you for far more situations.
Have a read of this document and see if you think it's worth it

Remember if your wife or you are a passenger in your car and the partner have a fault accident, you can normally sue your own partner (Insurer) for proper injury compensation.
Then compare it to say this policy which is not restricted to car accidents. http://www.aviva.co.uk/personal-accident-insurance/family-personal/ This does not include permanent total disablement and is not a recommendation just showing you the price for 24 hour cover0 -
Op. I never take any insurance of this type.
I think it just a money maker for the firms that offer them.0 -
Thanks. Have decided against it.0
