1 bed flat - what should I be paying for electricity?

I am currently with N Power and it appears due my direct debit being too low (£35) I have run up a deficit and as such my DD has been reset to £115pcm with one payment having already been taken.

I have already emailed my landlord to request up to date meter readings as N Power are using estimated billing. My concern is the actual readings ill be greater than the estimates. My heating is electric wall mounted heaters which are currently off for the summer.

What I am after is the best deal for myself to avoid running up this deficit again.

N power have so far suggested a one rate meter or a web tariff which has a penalty should I switch away from them. Is it best to settle the account and then set my DD to a more appropriate level whatever that may be?

To avoid being in debt you need to provide regular meter readings. Why is it so difficult to get these.

I do not have access to the meter due to being in a rented apartment.

You should always have access to the meters for your supply. It does not always happen, but basically this is unacceptable.

If you cannot access the meters for your property then the landlord should ensure the representatives who read the meters can gain access when needed... Saying that, even if outside of your property (as our current and previous flats are), you should normally still be able to access them. Do you know where they are? Are they inaccessable?

To be honest, I'd say the 'deal' isn't the issue - you will always be risking paying the wrong amount unless your provider gets accurate readings, so that's what I'd recommend focussing on.

Are you on E7 as the supplier has mentioned changing to a single rate meter?

Without actual readings, they can't accurately make that judgement as they will need to look at your % use per register and seasonal changes.
