Viewers Moving Things

I (tried to) open a window at my last viewing just to see if it actually opened (it didn't). I then got a puzzled look from the vendor, more so when I questioned why it didn't open (like a cow looks at an oncoming train), and then the words "No one has done that before".
They apparently also had a refitted kitchen since they had moved in. I questioned why the cooker was in the place it was. After about 10 seconds of silence, they replied "We don't know".

You're never warned kids will be at viewings. And you don't expect strangers to be touching your personal items (not part of the structure of the building). You'd expect that if somebody did bring a child to a viewing they'd have hold of it and not let it run around doing what it likes.girl_withno_name wrote: »Maybe this?
I want to know why you'd leave "expensive and sentimental items" out and on display, as well as within reach of children... when you've essentially invited strangers to have a wander around your home (potentially unoccupied).
Not everybody has kids round their homes ever, so to suddenly find one turning up unexpectedly and behaving badly isn't something expected.0 -

You put the good china out when you know those using it will recognise what it is and respect it.
You serve tea and coffee in mugs to workmen, and keep the good china in the sideboard.
You serve drinks at kids' parties in paper cups.
There's some 'form following function' at work here....
You don't leave items of truly unique and sentimental value out on display when showing your house...... the same applies to cartoon items (Shaun included), Sci-Fi models or posters, pop star of the week memorabilia, bondage gear, s*x toys, etc etc
Why on earth would any owner think that part of creating a good impression on buyers involves leaving matches lying around, or having a two foot high cartoon sheep in the room?
You're annoyed the kid played with it. I wouldn't have left it out for the kid to even see it. Out of sight, out of mind.0 -
If you leave tea towels over oven handles for a viewings, you need a lesson in decluttering. If the cooker, oven, whatever, is included in the sale, viewers will be inclined to inspect inside it, hence the tea towel has to move.
Let's presume the curtains were moved to allow inspection of windows and frames.
They may also have closed the curtains to see how much light they let in and or how full they are when closed.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

When the owner's out of the house for 13-14 hours a day at work, travelling long distances and in a stressful job ... and the house is in an out of the way place, so limited market and on the market for a few months .... they still have to live in it.Why on earth would any owner think that part of creating a good impression on buyers involves leaving matches lying around, or having a two foot high cartoon sheep in the room?

I'm sure most people have matches lying beside their candles; especially if they have quite a few candles in, say, the fireplace area. It's all perfectly normal. As for the sheep, it's a small item, standing in the corner of the room, it's a footstool, out of the way.
You can't strip your house bare every time you might get a viewer and they might bring a child and they might be so ill-mannered that they'd set it loose.
Many people have things that aren't there to be touched, played with... what if it'd been a small crystal lamp?
Of course people would be annoyed the kid played with it .... it's just f****ing bad mannered.0 -
