The messenger service is unrelated to msn messenger, it is a means of sending messages across the network.

Yes I have downloaded and installed SP2 as advised before. I have also gone through all of the things to do on the malware/spyware thread as advised and posted the hijack log as advised. Everything I have been advised to do I have done so. My husband dowloaded Spin Top Games shortly before these pop ups starting happening so I think it had something to do with that. Needless to say I've told him off!!!Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0

Platform: Windows XP Service Packs Should be listed here (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2600.0000)
I think you may be mistaken. To get SP2 you need to first have SP1 installed on your Operating System. Microsoft no longer support completely unpatched systems so you wouldn't be able to get it. Secondly, Microsoft require you to validate Windows to check you're not running a pirated Operating System. The entries relating to the validation process are missing I'm afraid. No validation, no download.
Reading between the lines, may I suggest you purchase a legitimate copy of Windows and start again. Without the relevant Service Packs and critical updates from Microsoft, this machine will be infected in no time. In fact, I'm amazed this system isn't already riddled with malware. This machine certainly isn't safe enough to perform online banking and the like.0 -
ok thanks. Thats not really the news I wanted to hear!! haha......anyone know where I can get a cheap valid version of Windows XP?
So do you think this problem will continue until then??Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -

Tells me this when I try to install SP2... This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation. The product key found on this computer is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked .
I had the computer fixed awhile back by a ltd company advertising in my local paper and they put xp on for me. Obviously not legit by the sounds of things.
Do you think it would be worth buying a new computer/laptop as apposed to just buying XP? Computer is about 15 years old and is various stages of breakage!!( cd drive doesn't work as good as it could etc etc)Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -
it's a classic Vundo infection, a new one , they have not a hope of removing it on a dodgy copy of XpEx forum ambassador
