How much to rent a safe?

Hi
I hope this is in the right place - if not mods please feel free to move it. My dh, daughter and I are travelling to Ibiza on Monday, first time flying abroad and we are all very excited :j I was going to hide our currency as renting a safe seemed a needless expense, however I'm having second thoughts and would appreciate any opinions. Also how much can we expect to pay to use a safe for a two week holiday? Thanks.

    Hi

Normal is around 3 Euros per day for safe hire. As {I believe} it would not only be you cash but also your passports and flight ticket needing to be safe I would highly recommend that you do hire a safe as if ANYTHING was to be stolen claiming back on your return would not be looked on in a favorite light with any claim you did.
Whatever the cost IMO peace of mind knowning your goods are safe is number one

Do you mean while you are actually at your destination?

If so, what kind of place are you staying in? Most hotels will have a safe, either behind the reception desk or in the room itself.

I have no idea about rental prices. I know that to buy them is relatively cheap, so don't know what that would mean for rental - if the rental prices would be reasonable, or if they'll milk it for all it's worth!!

To be honest, though, if there is a safe there when I am holiday, I use it and find it's great. BUT I usually use it for other things I have with me (e.g. passport, camera, laptop) and not for currency. I think if you are just wanting to store currency then it probably isn't worth renting a safe - just keep your money with you and be aware of your surroundings and take appropriate precautions (e.g. no bum bags!).

*edit* Just saw London50's post. I think that sort of safe rental price is reasonable, and as they say, it depends what you want to store in it.

Hope your trollies are big enough for you passport and travel documents etc . Also swimming with one hand in the air is difficult. Normally about 2 or 3 euros a night so 30 or 40 for your stay . (average)

  • renting a safe at the hotel is not that expensive, however it varies, the hotel we're going the safe is included in A/I however you have to pay a 30 euro deposit which you get back when you hand back the key at the end of your holiday. It is advisable to rent a safe (usually in your room) as you may find it a condition of your insurance that valuables and money should be kept in the safe.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Thanks for the advice. You're all echoing my thoughts and at 3 euros a day I definitely think it will be worth it.

    Usually about 25euros a week/ten days.
We sometimes travel in a group and all chip in for the safe, we all trust each other and tend to be getting our money out at the same time anyways.

Definately for peace of mind would get one plus your insurance wont pay out if anything is stolen from your room and not in a safe.

Whether you think it worthwhile to rent a safe or not (I would everytime) I think you should read your travel insurance policy document BEFORE you go.
I know of no policy that will pay out should you be burgled and your stuff is stolen from your room unless kept in a safe.
