1.Wouldn't touch Halfords with a barge pole for bikes. Go to you local dealer or one of the bike only franchise like Evans Cycles
After having had to wait over 10 weeks for a saddle to be repaired under warranty from Evans cycles I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole either.

Go for the local independent dealer.

Each to their own really: I had excellent service from evans (Bristol) 5 years ago when I bought my 1st road bike, went back recently after a hybrid and found the staff were lacklustre and the shop understaffed.

Ordered a boardman from Halfords (reluctantly, however they are the only stockists and I can't get anything which comes remotely near for the price).
I will report back on my findings, although the staff seem knowledgable enough and were keen to help so far!
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

who import from Germany - be careful how you order and be sure its what you want (I do agree that they are very good VFM if that's how much you want to spend though...

I own a road bike from Halfords and i'm still able to compete with riders who have far more expensive bikes.
Bike snobbery is getting out of hand these days.
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

reporting back: bike great, staff crap.
OK sales staff friendly and helpful.
'Mechanic' I wouldn't trust to put air in the tyres!

1.Cables routed incorrectly despite having rather obvious cable paths and clip guides !!!!!!.
    2.Seat post loose
3.Reflectors and bell loose (former now in the bin)

All now fixed: would consider sending a letter/spoof invoice for the remedial work but it would be ignored and anyway it'd be tongue in cheek in any case.

Brake discs rubbing a little but I am sure they'll bed in and there's no LBS near me to adjust if they need it and no way would I take it back to Halfrauds for them to screw it up again!
