Council House Exchange?

We are considering joining up to one of those council house exchange sites. However, I was just wondering if it is even worth it. We have a two bedroom flat and we would like a two bedroom house - I am thinking its not likely people will want to swap a house for a flat though.

Has anyone here managed to successfully swap houses? If so, how long did it take? We aren't in a rush to move, it is more just planning for the future.

Thanks

    Hi,

I used the Homeswapper website when looking for a mutual exchange. I was swapping a 1 bedroom bungalow and looking for a 2 bedroom property. It took about 4 months to get a exchange sorted. Homeswapper is a good site, but you do get a lot of timewasters on there, and also people who just ignore your messages despite logging on daily!

    Good luck. :)

Before spending any of your own money on this, check with your local Council to see if they already subscribe to an existing service. This may allow to to access this for free.

Agree with squinty. It also depends if it's a ground floor flat or not. You may get someone with limited mobility looking for a ground floor flat to exchange for a house.

I exchanged from a 2 bedroom house with garden to a 2nd floor flat. I got my exchange through word of mouth. So don't give up hope.
