All the renal diets do basically the same job, they lessen the work the kidneys have to do but maintain the nutritional intake, they also increase the ability to gain weight.

There are 3 main vet brands

Hills KD - biscuit/tins/sachet
RCW Renal - biscuit/sachet
Purina NF - biscuit/tins

They all come in biscuit and tinned/sachet and give you the option to try and match the style to your current diet. RCW has the most flavours with Beef, Tuna and Chicken.

I think Purina is the cheapest by a little bit. I buy online and its about £5 per tray of 24 cheaper than the vets, and marginally cheaper than KD with larger tins.

Its really trialling each one and see what they like. Mines adores Purina NF, in fact has never had such a good appetite in her life!

Your vet should give you a few sachets/tins to try first, and both Purina and Hills do a money back guarantee if your cat won't eat them!

I used to buy Royal Canin sachets - from PetPlanet and VetUK online. Probably best to buy small amounts from your vet or ebay first to try the flavours. My cat loved the beef for ages and then suddenly went off it and would only eat the chicken.

£5 CHEAPER than the vets for 24!!! About £30 per 24 x 195g tins!

I buy from www.petmeds.co.uk the prices are pretty similar across the websites, just watch out for the discount weekends and free delivery deals.

I think the differing flavours and the sachets which make the food look like normal pouches appeal to cats. Renal cats can be prone to nausea and can go off food really easily.

Thats why I'm so pleased with the Purina, its only in chicken flavour but she cant get enough!

Has anyone any experience with renalzin? I've read you can use this on normal food for them?
