Been sent a payment to an email address i have no access to - Paypal

Help!

I had been having problems with one of my email addresses, so I opened up a new email account with another provider and I thought that was that.

But I've since sold an item on ebay and somehow the payment has been sent to my old email address.

I can see the money sitting there under "unclaimed payments" but I cant access it until I confirm my email which I cant do because I cant access that email address!!!!

It's been a good few days now and I'm running the risk of a neg on my ebay account if I can't get this resolved.

Can anyone help?

I don't quite follow. Did you confirm the new address with Paypal?

Have you tried contacting Paypal to resolve it?
  • refuse payment and it'll be sent back to the buyer. Ask them to send it to your new address
    :D
  • I had a seller do exactly the same thing to me (you guys are a real pain J O K E :rotfl: ).

The payment will reverse back to the buyer after 30 days (yes, I know it's a long time).

I was lucky as the buyer because it was a very small amount and the seller sounded genuine so I sent a 2nd payment and waited for the 1st to come back (we're only talking a couple of quid here though).

I don't think there is anything you can do, but explain the situation to the buyer and try to reach a compromise - depending on the price and the urgency with which they need/want the item.
    1. You could send it and rely on them to pay when the 1st payment comes back.
    2. Or they could pay you twice.
    3. Or you could both wait.
    Nothing is ideal.

  • what kind of email address is it? If it's web based e.g. hotmail, you could set up a new account with your old address as long as it's been inactive for quite a while (60 days I think for hotmail)

I had this a while ago and just asked my buyers to cancel their payments and send them to the correct address. I still to this day have no idea how the payments entered a really old invalid email address.

My mum and dad had the exact same thing happen. They changed their email both with ebay and paypal, some 2 months later, after having no probs before, someone paid to their old email address! The seller cancelled the payment and resent it to the right email.

It is very important to confirm new email address after adding them to your paypal account, or always have 2 or 3 emails on your paypal account, so that in case any one of them down, you have other emails to fall back.
