Fitting a bathroom sink - difficult?

I need to replace our bathroom sink, as we've put a big crack in the old one. Parents had a (brand new) replacement sink going spare, which is almost identical in design, size and layout. Just ever so slightly different colour. However its missing taps and plug - needs centre mounted mixer tap, plug would be chrome affair that pops up, when you press button by taps.
How hard is it to fit a sink? Bearing in mind I have next to no plumbing experience.
Is it worth tackling, or would it be quick and cheap to just get a plumber in?

It is something you can do yourself, put the taps & waste in before you fit the basin, make sure the water is off & fit a couple of isolation valves (ballofix) to the two water pipes, depending on the size of the tails coming out of the tap you may or may not need reducers, make sure (& I know I'm going to get ripped apart for this one) you sit the waste on a bed of mastic (silicon sealant) put some mastic around the top of the washer underneath the basin & some more on the bottom of the washer it will squeeze out when you tighten it up just use your finger to rub around & get most of it off, in my experience the thread on the waste isn't long enough to fully tighten the trap so you may need to cut about 5mm off of the nut on the trap to get it to tighten & seal properly, with the isolation valves on the pipes you can turn them off switch your water back on & then do the rest at your leisure. Good luck.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
There is absolutely nothing difficult in replacing a bathroom sink. But you do seem to have serous doubts as to your ability.
Do you not know anyone who does have some experience and who would be pleased to share their knowledge. In my experience, most competent DIYers are happy to pass on their knowledge. I know that I certainly am.
Having someone nearby will prevent you from the elementary mistakes that all beginners are prone to make.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0
