Speeding
I was caught doing 38mph in a 30. Totally my fault and I admit to it.
I know I was in the wrong and will deal with what ever they give me.
But what will they give me?
I had been driving more or less 2 years to the date might be just under. And I have never been stopped before or got any points.
Any ideas. I have read 3 points and £60. Is this likely to be the case?
Cheers

The fine will be £60 plus three points on your licence but you'll probably be offered the opportunity to take a Speed Awareness Course which will cost more (£95 I think) but will mean you don't get the three points added. Although it costs more the course means your insurance doesn't get affected.0

Speed awareness courses are generally offered at up 10 10%+9mph over the limit (unless you're in Scotland, where they're not offered at all). Takes half a day of your time and the cost depends on the area but is typically of the order of £80-100. You don;t usually need to tell your insurers about them, but a few insurers are starting to ask about them so check the small print of your policy to make sure.
The other option is a fixed penalty of £60 and 3 points. These are generally offered at up to 49 in a 30 zone. If you're on the point of completing your two years probation then having your licence revoked under the New Drivers Act won;t be a worry unless you already have 3 points, or unless you're planning to get caught again in the next couple of weeks (or however long it is).
You have the option of declining the offers and attending court instead - but if you don't dispute that you were speeding there's not a lot of point as it would just result in a bigger fine.
One thing you must make sure you get right is to complete, sign and return the form naming yourself as driver within the 28 day deadline. Failing to do so is a more serious offence than speeding, and would lead to 6 points and a fine of a few hundred pounds. Best to keep a copy and send it recorded delivery to be on the safe side.0 -
Many thanks0

If you do get the points don't forget to tell your insurer and see your premiums rise a couple of hundred £

I did call my insurers just to see what they said. They said it would not be added onto my current policy but on the next one. So hopefully with another years no claims it may cancel out any additional costs.0 -
oof... you didnt give them your details did you? They'll add it to your record regardless as to whether you've actually been given the three points or not!0

you'll be fine then! Hopefully it'll just be a driver awareness course for the first offence. Good luck dude!
Thank you very much.0 -
As you were doing 38, your speedo would have been reading 40-42mph.....
Can I just point out that the speed limit is NOT 41mph on every road in all conditions and this sign:
Means national speed limit..... Which is 60mph on a single carriageway and 70mph on a dual-carriageway or motorway. (unless your in a van/truck, where you subtract 10mph off each)
Thanks
