I'm assuming you're not registered for internet banking with them? If not, go on their site and register as you'll just need your card to hand which you have. Then you can check your balance and make payments there.

I thought banks never asked for a PIN over the phone. That was certainly my impression.

I think that's a different PIN. One set up specifically for telephone account holder validation.

At least, I hope that's the case.

This is a different PIN to the one used with your card, they will never ask for that PIN. Almost all telephone banking I have used over the past 15 years have required a PIN or password.

As mentioned by the other poster, set up online banking. I have a tesco credit card and is really quick to log on, check balance, increase limit and make payment etc. Although you do need a password and a alphanumeric PIN.

When I first read this I agreed that it was absurd.

    On further reflection, it isn't.

Part of the security is that you must have access to the card's registered address. That way no one can 'hack' your account simply by gathering information.

I prefer not to use internet banking having been the victim of fraud - I have accessed info in the past answering security questions but they have added this pin thing now which has irriated me as I had nothing in writing or with the cc bills to tell me to set it up if I wish to continue to use telephone - something I very rarely do - I still answered all the same questions asked before today and passed no probs but that was only so they can send me a flipping pin .

Now moved the small balance to my nationwide one at least I can actually go speak to someone face to face if needed with that

I would think if you had been a victim of fraud you would prefer the extra level of security?

Much safer with a credit card as its not your own money so to speak. Ive been a victim of details being used to items i hadn't bought but i caught it in time and i still use internet banking.
