VW Touran "Emissions Workshop" Warning
Hi all.We have a 2005 VW Touran 1.9tdi. Today the engine management light came on whilst driving and a warning message stating Emissions Workshop.
The car didn't perform any differently. It didn't go into limp mode. So before going to more specialist forums I'd try here. Any thoughts?

have you tried turning it off and turning it on again0

Yes funnily enough and it comes back on.0

DPF problem i'd bet.... It's actually pretty hard to drive these new diesels in the way they required to keep the DPF in good condition.... But they don't tell you this when you buy them and they have no hesitation in taking £2000+ off you to replace them.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thks for your rant, Ive had my fair share of DPF problems but this car doesn't have one.0

Firstly check the MAF sensor connections. And make sure the sensor is clean (just don't touch the MAF wire).
No limp mode would indicate something simple, hopefully."Retail is for suckers"

Yes I hope it will be something simple. Reading other forums, all the big problems are accompanied by obvious engine faults. Fingers crossed, it goes to the garage in the morning.0

hi andy8442, ive got exactly the same problem in my 2004 Touran.
can you please post back and let me know what the outcome was?0 -
No good speculating, you need a code reader could be multiple problems.
Even better a must have for any VAG or GM car is to have VAS does more than Vagcom etc and cheaper.
Independant garage will charge above £25 just to read the ECU alone, they wont clear the log so another £25 when done and soon pays for itself.
You can even fault find and clear codes the VW dealers have left on.
Now that reminds me must clear the fault on traction control.0 -
Turns out to be the EGR valve. Not causing a problem though, probably stuck in the open position so I'm going to leave it until it gets serviced, which is soon.0

Is it the EGR faulty or just dirty?
A mate's 407 HDI had EGR problems last month, so he bought some Wynns EGR cleaner spray and it fixed it - he wanted to remove it and clean it first, but apparently the EGR is at the back of the engine and hard to access, so he just bought the spray for £8 instead. You just remove the air filter cover and spray it into the intake with the engine running.
I'm not a big fan of those wonder sprays/additives, but it could be worth investigating."Retail is for suckers"
