Jacqueline, this thread will help you with the pop up messages as I fixed that problem today with Strike Eagle's post.

You can download all of the following for free
Spybot search & destroy
Ad aware se personal
Spywareguard
Spywareblaster
AVG anti virus free edition
Make sure you also have an active firewall
Sygate personal firewallLaughter is the sun

First have you got the set of tools which ALL users should have. Virus scanner-free suggestions on this forum. Firewall -ditto.(Don't run a XP's firewall as well as the separate one as they can cause problems).Ad-aware-to get rid of maliscious programs. Spybot Search and Destroy to get the bits Ad-aware misses. Hijack This to scan the system.
Make sure all these are up to date and continue to do so at least once a week without fail.
Run a scan with Spybot, Ad-aware and the virus scanner, fix all they suggest. Then if you still have problems come back to this site.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
jdodd,
If none of that works, take a look at the thread I started with similar problems. I'm on my 3rd day of trying to sort it out. There are suggestions on the thread for things to do which might help you if you have something different to me.
This is the link to the thread:- Click here
I hope you have better luck than me! Good luck!Torgwen.....................
