greasing battery terminals

ive just bought a new battery for my car do i need to grease the terminals my dad said u can use vasiline was just wondering if that was anygood or if i need to buy summat special from car shop

Correct - & make sure you claen away any evidence of leaks/spills on & under the battery tray, when you take the old one off.
If you cant see any 'furry' residue from this, or paint that has gone rusty, it's still worth cleaning.
The BEST way, with care to wipe splashes, of course, is to pour a kettle full of boiling water over the area. You'll be surprised at how much corrosion will become apparent, if you've an oldish car.
Then rinse it again with cold water, spray WD40, or smear a light coating of engine oil, over the area & you'll be as good as new!

To clear away any spillage of battery acid wash the area with some water that has Bicarbonate of Soda in it. (It kills the acid)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
