Insurance quotes addressed to unknown person

Over the past few days we've received an influx of mail addressed to a name we've never heard of. From the envelopes and trying to see through the little envelope windows, they are all insurance quotes.
We're a little concerned that someone has pinched our address....but why would they do that? It can't be identity theft as they don't have mine or my partners names. I'm just a little concerned about what else they could do.
Has this happened to anyone?

I could be two things and they do happen
1) Someone from an Insurance company or interested company, is doing a number of quotes for properties in your area online and have selected your address. They do this to see what the rates are like, with varying details added. If you opened the quotes, are they based on exactly the same details. If the date of birth is varying, this may be an indicator that this is the case.
2) Someone locally is wanting to see what quotes are like in the area, fiddling around with different details, to see what reduces the premium. They are not entering their own details, as Insurers use software that detects whether someone is manipulating their details, to get a low quote and stops them from buying online.
3) Some is just mucking around.
Anyway, if it is just quotes, it does not affect you at all. Just return to sender. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Probably nothing to worry about but do open them.
You are allowed to they were delivered to your property. As long as you dont use that information to defraud etc.
Ive had letters for other people here. I either chuck them away if junk mail or return to sender if its something a bit more important.
Swinton have sent me someone elses details before, Just a wrong number entered. And recently i have received financial papers from the council for someone else.
Sent back not known at this address and they sent another.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Or it could be someone using your address to set up policies.
OP, it would probably be helpful to the insurers if you open the letters and give them a ring and let them have the details. That way, they can put a stop on policies being taken out at the address (not across the industry, just within their company) and can take a look to see if something is going on.0 -

Just cross out your address and write "RETURN TO SENDER NOT KNOWN" or something similar then put in the post box.
Call centre operatives are not known for being helpful with things out of the ordinary.
BTW Every year I get a different person's name trying that on me. The names are all made up. It's tends to be someone who can't check/uncheck the boxes on comparison/insurance sites.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
