And if you use less tape, you'll get the buyer who marks you down for the item not being secure enough. Can't win! ;)

Probably :rotfl:. Thankfully I have had feedback on a few more items now and my score is back up again to 4.9.

Good. I've never had a problem with less tape. Things have always got there fine without it; self-seal envelopes are very strong on their own and don't really need any reinforcement for ordinary items. I fold over larger envelopes to fit the item but everything has got there fine - I really wouldn't chance a frustrated buyer coming back with a damaged item because they couldn't wrestle the parcel open.

This issue was still baffling me, so I sent a message to the three possible buyers who had marked down postage.

Apparently the person who had paid the correct amount marked it down because I used 'too much' brown parcel tape, making the package more difficult to open.

Any buyer who marks you down for packaging too securely is pathetic. Personally I don't think there is much you can do about those sort of idiots. If you use less tape, someone will simply mark you down as a badly packaged item, so you can't win either way.

Would they prefer a badly packed item?!

Have you ever actually tried to get into something mummified in tape?

It's not fun when a paper item rips most of the way across because the seller bundled it up in so much tape it looks like it should have been found in the crypt of a pyramid.

If you order a large item from Ryman's online they use shredded old boxes inside a new box for protection.
