Sungei Wang shopping mall in KL has got lots of little independant electronics shops- its a good cheap mall for all sorts of stuff. Or if you want to buy big-brand electronics then KLCC mall has big department stores and places such as Apple store and the Sony Centre.0

The Cameron Highlands between KL and Penang are very nice to visit if you want to escape the heat and humidity for a day or two - it has weather like a perfect English summer day. You don't say how you are travelling, but we went on the sleeping car train from Butterworth (across the ferry from Penang) to KL which was very cheap and saved a night's hotel. Just be aware that the aircon can be freezing!0

Does anyone know where is best to buy electroinics? Is it best to stick to the the main shops or are there markets or local shops that are cheaper?
MO good choice.
Depends what you want to buy. If it's digital cameras, computer stuff, i-pods, mp players etc go to Low Yat Plaza, just behind Sungei Wang Plaza.
Fancy a buffet? go to Starhill Gallery, on the fourth floor there is a restaurant called Jogoya. You probably will never see anything like it in the UK.0 -

IMO the E&O is a very special hotel, be prepared to be knocked backwards in terms of quality of staff. A hotel manager told me he rated it the best hotel in the world in terms of quality vs value for money and I agree :T0 -

In general, electronics are only a little bit cheaper than back here. Depending on what you are looking for, the choices for the latest gadgets are not as vast as here. If you want phones or PC components, stick to the UK. For the sake of saving 10% -15%, dont buy something you cannot take back if something goes wrong.
However, if you want REALLY cheap no-name brand products, look in the local papers for adverts from superstores like Tesco, Carrefour and Giant who usually have the best prices and you dont have to go through the hassle of haggling.
Beware of Jalan Alor and Bukit Bintang areas in the evening.. they are full of pimps .. if you are a white male, you WILL be approached. Just say a polite no and dont be agressive.0 -

the hawker centre in penang near holiday inn hotel is very very cheap, and a great experience, however although not malay, marios italian restuarant is second best italian (only second to a restuarant in sorrento) i have ever been to. must try mushroom soup! £20 family of 3, 3 courses and drinks!
the mandarin is the best in kl- they wash your clothes for free, pity your not staying there on the return, then you'll have all clean clothes to take home!!
we stayed at the grand plaza in pen good location.0 -
you could hire a taxis for four hours for about rm25 and go to the fruit farm which was very interesting, butterfly park, the big reclining buddah and tropical gardens0
