Looking at this auction, what do you think is the worse case scenario??
DVLA are closed today, so can`t check the VIC on it, do you think its worth the risk bidding?

You could pay for the vehicle report on it... otherwise I'd probably give it a wide berth, but then I'm a numpty when it comes to cars lol

It`s been repaired now and passed the MOT, so providing it has been VIC checked, It could be a bargin !

You need to find out what Catagory write off it was. Also ask why he bought the car and never used it.

Got the following back from status:

Insurance write-off Recorded as an insurance write-off
Recorded by insurers as the subject of a total loss claim due to damage. Contact the seller for more details

So Is it possible that it could have undergone a VIC check but still shows that its a write off?

    Thanks, I understand now.
  • The whole thing doesn't sound right to me. There's a lot of questions and a lot of answer avoiding going on for my liking. If he bought the car himself (which, presumably he must have done as he says he's put an MoT on it) then surely he would have asked the same question about the category of the write off, so why is he saying he doesn't know now? Considering the age and mileage, I can't see any reason why it would be a Cat D write off. I reckon it's Cat C (or above, and he's bullshitting about the VIC) which probably means it pretty badly bent under those nice new panels.

He's hiding something big in my opinion. My advice would be to definitely view and drive before it bidding and also make sure the V5 owner address is where the car is as well as checking the VIN plates and numbers against the V5, making sure that they haven't been nicked off another motor and welded on to make it look legit.

Personally I wouldn't touch it, regardless of the money it's (currently) going for.

  • there is something really up with that auction .

i wouldnt believe that mileage for a start, which would then make me wonder what else is wrong that he is trying to hide . :):)

The vehicle hasn't been taxed since January 2005, see DVLA link below (sorry don't know how to shorted it!)
Therefore the accident must have been 2004/ or very early 2005, where's it been since???

    I wouldn't go near myself.

The new v old paint finish on the bonnet is highly noticable even in these pictures, if the paint isnt right - everything else could be in doubt as well.
