Thomas Cook Flight Delay- Compensation?

Hi,
Myself and My wife were due to return from Mexico on Monday July 30th after our honeymoon. The flight was due to depart at 15.25 and we boarded at 14.35.
We were all on board the flight and ready to depart when the pilot said the engineer needed to change a computer due to some regulations and we will still depart on time. 2 hours later we were still aboard the plane and the pilot eventually announced we would go back to the terminal to wait due to a problem with the change over.
Despite requesting numerous times at the terminal. i was refused water by thomas cook staff because they didnt know when the flight would be ready to take off. I had spent the last of my mexican money before we went on board after seeing the flight was to depart on time so i could not even by myself a bottle of water.
At 20.00 it was announced the flight was cancelled for the evening due to the problem they had putting in this new computer and we would all be sent to a ai hotel for the night. i asked for water again and was told this was not possible.
We did not arrive at the hotel until 11pm that night. After getting soemthing to eat, We went to the room and discovered the room was in a section of the hotel closed off due to building works. the room itself was nice but had not been used for months and smelled. We also realised there was no towells so we phoned reception and at 12 30am someone arrived with some towels. In the morning we also noticed there was no shower gel or shampoo and had to again call for this.
We had also paid for vip check in and lounge access and on the tuesday when we returned to the airport we were told we would not get that for our flight home that day.
In total the flight was delayed for 24 hours before take off and i was wondering if i would be able to claim for compensation? i want my mobile calls refunded as well as the cost of the vip check in and the money back for an unpaid day off work my wife has had to take.
Does anyone know if i would be entitled to anything back?
Thanks

i had a similar delay with thomsons a few years although we were told before we left our hotel the flight was delayed and we would be moved to another hotel, spent hours sat on a coach getting shuttled around.hours checking into hotel for overnight stay, waiting for luggage to be brought to room(we couldnt collect ourselves) hotel ran out of some alcholic drinks earlier in the evening
what thomson didnt tell us we were entitled to free phone calls of a reasonable length.we were told 1 call of 2 mins and any longer we would be charged.
we also lost days off work.
we were able to claim a small amount from travel insurance
i wish you luck0 -

But presumably you got to use the VIP Lounge that you paid for once, the day of the original flight? Why would you be seeking a refund for that?
It's a private run lounge at CUN so I can see why they won't let you use it the following day (twice).0 -

We bought it more for the VIP priority check in, So we wouldn't have a huge queue to wait in at the airport. I think we are entitled to the money back since this was not the case.0 -

I think you should be entitled to something yes.
However - to prevent it being quite as bad if this were to happen in the future - I dont get why you say you couldnt get a drink because you had spent your mexican money? Why didnt you just use a card??0 -

I had s left my card in a pair of trousers that i packed in my suit case by mistake and by the time i realized i was on route to airport.0 -
What do you insurers say? At least make sure you give them details asap, even if you do get something from TC it won't hurt to make the insurers aware right from the start.0

Oh no that sounds like you had an awful time. I have no advice to offer however I was on the virgin flight leaving from cancun on Tuesday 31/7 and saw the tc flight in front of us on the runway. I did say to my husband that I thought tc didnt operate on Monday's as we originally planned to book with them. Now I know you'd been there an awful long time.... Ever so sorry hope it didn't ruin your holiday0

Aww thats weird! It was a nightmare but thankfully a group of 8 of us sitting together got chatting and kept the atmosphere good otherwise it would have been a very long night lol!
It didnt ruin our honeymoon but certainly was frustrating. Meant i was back at work today without having a proper day to recover!0
