The recpetion is nothing to do with woods or hills etc. 3 is not a network on its own anymore, i.e. it does not own the network, another provider does. So, on any one cell site (which is used to give your phone a signal) the priorities go to the owning cell sites customers.

i.e. lets say 3 are owned by orange.. the cell site can hold 10 customers on a call. You are the 10th person and go to make a call, but an Orange customer also goes to make a call. You will be kicked off to let the Orange customer on.

With "3" for nearly 6 months now. No problems at all. Ballymena area and all over NI plus Republic.

No roaming charges is a big PLUS.
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
  • I have been having probs with my phone for over a month now - kept ringing off all the time when I was talking to people. Apparently the masts or something went down in Belfast....so I'm just back onto 2G now for a while. Orange told me to wait a couple of weeks before switching to 3 again....

I think you'll find that 3 is very much it's own service/network provider. The problem arises when one strays out of 3's network and 'roams' onto their GSM partner (which is now orange) and customers complained of calls being dropped. However, since they started using orange this shouldn't happen anymore.
I was with 3 until 9 months ago when I returned to O2 and that's a decision I've regretted everyday. Lack of 3g coverage, poor connection rates etc and uncompetitive tariffs.
