Hi can anyone help,My son and his girlfriend are expecting their first baby in December,i have no idea what they can claim if anything.
Their circumstances are
My son earns £15750 per annum is partner £20500 but when she stops work she will only be entitled to maternity pay,I Think !
If anyone can point us in the right direction i would appreciate it,they have never been out of work and are now 27 ,they have paid their demands and if they are entitled to any assistance i want to ensure they get it.
Thanks

Child Benefit and Tax Credits (maybe?)
If she gets mat pay and not smp she may get 90% of her income.
Not a great amount to be honest...0 -
Your son's partner will probably be entitled to Statutory Maternity Pay. See here:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/moneytaxandbenefits/benefitstaxcreditsandothersupport/expectingorbringingupchildren/dg_175917
What they will be entitled to after the baby is born will be Child Benefit and maybe Child Tax Credits.
They may be also be entitled to Working Tax Credits at some point. They will need to telephone the Tax Credits department. It will depend on whether she is intending to return to work.
You can model different scenarios on the benefit calculator on www.turn2us.org.uk.0 -
How long will she be taking as maternity leave?0

I would expect she will be taking the max 39 weeks, she should get SMP from the details in the goverment web site.0
