Sainsburys pet insurance - Cashback more than policy cost!

I've just been shopping around as or renewal is through, and although we're not going with sainsburys for the dog they are currently offered £80 quidco cashback for a new policy. I ran a quote through for one of the cats and it came in at £63 for 1 year of their lower cover.
Which would mean 'free' pet insurance (albeit low cover) plus £17 in cashback.
Just a heads up, as it may be a good option for people who want basic cover without paying the earth.
(PS - You need to keep the cover for 4-6months to get the cashback. So can't take it out then cancel it)

Nice one! Usual pet insurance caveat about preexisting conditions meaning you can't swap easily like home/car, but if Sainsburys offers the level of cover you're looking for or if you weren't going to insure anyway, there's no down side.0

I didn't realise you actually get a big discount for having a nectar card too, so I've just taken out the higher policy with up to £7500 cover for £76. I also get £80 cashback, and double nectar points at sainsburys for taking out the higher policy.
Well worth looking in to. For me it's just there for bigger things, so I don't mind not being covered for pre-existing conditions.
I'm toying with the idea of whether I could take out a second policy for cat2 and also get another £80 cashback, and also a 5% discount for a 2nd pet. Will have to look into it.0 -
Just worth remembering that cashback is not guaranteed - I've had no problems but I did accept that it was a slight gamble when I recently did a TCB deal for my AA breakdown cover, with the cashback it made it a worthwhile deal but if it doesn't come through, I've gone for a slightly more expensive policy than I would have otherwise! Definately read the TCB reviews to see what other people have experienced, the AA ones said that they were slow to confirm the cashback but generally it went through OK.0

If cashback doesn't go through I still get double nectar points at sainsburys and a year of pet insurance. I can easily cancel it after the 4-6 month validation period and go somewhere cheaper if it doesn't materialise. Good point to watch out for though.0

When insuring, does there actually has to be a real animal/car/whatever? Of course, given the risk to the cashback that krlyr mentions, it's not worth it, but I wonder how many policies Sainsburys now has for animals called Cat2

I have insured my cat twice with sainsburys. Cash back came through 1st time and when it came to renewing I found I could get a cheaper quote by being a new customer. Went through quidco and got cash back again. Have 2 cats this time round and have just took some out as it had lapsed a few months ago. Cash back used to be £50 so glad I waited. They offer 5% discount for taking out 2 policies so have took them out via quidco hoping for 2 lots of cash back. I have just called them to confirm how my 5% discount is sorted and was advised " by clicking on the option button" are you taking out 2 polices today etc etc" you automatically get the discount. They work on trust apparently!!!!! No one is apparently concerned if you don't take out 2 so extra 5% discount available for those only insuring 10

My dog is insured with Sainsbury's. I didn't do it through Quidco but took up the offer of 3 months free (pay for 9months, get 3 months free). I haven't had any problems with them when it come to claiming and they pay the vet directly so I don't have to pay up front. I can't change now because of pre existing conditions but I wouldn't insure with them if I had another animal.
My premium started off quite low, especially with the 3 months free but it seems to go up £10 per month each year now and it currently is £65.06 a month just for the one dog which seems expensive compared to what others are paying, that is for the £7500 per condition though and he has had some claims.
Be very wary of taking out a lesser option. A friend of mine has her dog insured with Tesco, she is only covered for £2500. Her dog is nearly eleven now and is on some very expensive treatment for cancer, its the tablet form of chemo. Its from America and costs £400 for a course of 20 tablets. His £2500 has now run out and she is having to pay herself. Its already cost her over £2000 but while he is still active and enjoying life, she hasn't the heart to have him PTS, but if it costs much more she will start struggling to pay it. If you can, go for the higher option, it would be a very hard decision to have to make if the insurance money ran out.0
