discharged Bankrupt bank account??

I was discharged bankrupt in Oct 2010, and have had a barclays account since I was declared bankrupt. I was told that it would help repair my score if I kept the account in good order. I was told it has been kept in excellent order, and has had a lot of money go through the account (wages etc) I have just found out that, 2 years later, it's didley squat to my score because it's a cash card account. I asked to have it upgraded to a regular account as that's what they advised this time, and was declined. Where do I go to get a proper current account that will help improve my score? I've wasted 2 years!
