Just a little bit of info to confuse you a bit more spigs , if your Humax is a Foxsat HDR , which it seems it may be , you can tailor the HDR with the Media and File Server bundle, which I use for streaming the recordings on the Humax to my WDTVLive Hub and TV, and my various PCs and my Ipad too(using 8player on the iPad £2.99/£3.99 ...forgetful i am), also it allows you to use Samba and / or FTP to move bits around. The only drawback of this is SD recordings are easy, but if you record HD in Freesat Mode then they get encrypted and cannot be streamed or used other than on the Hummy. You can also transfer other recordings to the Humax using the AV2HDR software too(assuming they are yours to convert ie they are not DRM'ed) I have not yet tried storing non-Foxsat format videos on the Hummy for streaming elsewhere never seen the need to but in theory it may work, but they won't play on the Humax itself without converting using AV2HDR. The above Media/File Server bundle is available here http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1661195-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-4-0-part-3-a.html

Don't know if this is useful but hey you never know.

    Thanks jayme1,

Curiosity satisfied and this cat is still alive!

I'm attempting to shift all the hardware today (tv/humax are differrent ends of the room hence wanting to put them together to save space and be generally neater) so I'll let you know how I get on.

Ooh, debitcardmayhem I'll read through your link to see if that helps me get my head around what you said! Yes, 'tis a Foxsat and I love the nickname 'Hummy' goes well with lappy, etc. Right off into tech language for me ...

Thanks very much once again, you are so helpful it's brilliant.

    All the best,

    Wow!

Too early to try and get my head around that but looks like it will be useful in the future. I'm such a thickie I didn't understand half of it. Does 'flash' mean the Humax must be connected to the internet? It's not at present. Could I download all that stuff through the lappy and save to a usb stick to load onto the Humax?

No, gonna stop asking questions and get on with shifting my room around. I'll come back to this later and see if I can get my head around it then.

Thanks very much though debitcardmayhem, I'm sure it will be of use but (possibly) only once I have my powerline adaptors(?).

    All the best,

Yes I use a 1 GB USB Stick, (formatted to Fat32) very simple (but some sticks are a bit temperamental ...well the Hummy is more likely:D)
Oh I have today put a .mpeg video on my Box to try it out and although the HDR cannot play it the Twonky Media server will stream it to my WDTVLive and I can watch it on my kitchen TV (this TV doesn't have access to ethernet so I use the Hub for that) but get on with your wiring / moving , then when you have a spare mo think about the possibilities that are going to open up with Jayme1's and my suggestions... time will tell :D

    Hi guys,

I didn't come back on yesterday as I was so disappointed that the set up didn't work no matter how I connected up the RCA! All the kit is together so at least I gained the space and left it as such. But cue a very down Spigs.

When I woke up this morning I had lightbulb moment and realised why it didn't work. Primarily this is because I was being a complete dumb @ss!!!

Dug out the RCA again and reconnected it up. Switched everything on and remembered to switch the denon to aux1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel a fool admitting this but in case anyone else ever reads this they may learn from my stupid mistake.

Jayme1 you are a star and I wish I could hit the thanks button more times than once. Debitcardmayhem, thanks for your pointers too and I'll take a look in the future at what to do about streaming etc.

By the way, my OH (a complete technophobe) wasn't sure about having the tv playing through the speakers but after an hour or so of watching the Olympics today he decided it was far better! All in all then, success.

Thank you so much for your help.

    All the best,
    Spigs
